Religious Education

Our aim is to teach children about key different world religions and enable them to learn from their teachings. By following the Sandwell Agreed Syllabus, we enable children to have a good knowledge of each faith by the time they move on from our school.

Children are given the opportunity to gain knowledge about the main teachings, celebrations, places of worship, holy books and artefacts, stories and prayers associated with each religion.

They are also encouraged to consider what can be learnt from beliefs that are different to their own. We foster tolerance of viewpoints which differ from each other and give every child the opportunity to explore their own ideas, consider their own opinions, and ask questions to understand more.

Parents / carers who wish to withdraw their children from RE should be aware of its aims and what is covered in the RE curriculum and that you are given the opportunity to discuss this if you wish. It should be made clear whether the withdrawal is from the whole RE curriculum or specific parts of it.

Please contact school to discuss this further.

If pupils are withdrawn from RE, schools have a duty to supervise them, though not to provide additional teaching.
